How We Calculate Freight Rates
Distance & Lane
We estimate the mileage between origin and destination states using region-to-region averages. Rates vary based on lane balance — outbound from high-volume states like California or Florida tends to cost slightly more due to demand.
Equipment Premium
Flatbed loads carry a ~25% premium over dry van due to securement requirements. Reefer loads carry a ~20% premium for temperature control. Expedited service adds approximately 50% for dedicated, time-critical delivery.
Fuel Surcharge
A fuel surcharge of 18–22% of the linehaul rate is added to account for fluctuating diesel prices. This is standard across the industry and adjusts weekly based on DOE national average diesel prices.
LTL Pricing
LTL rates are calculated per hundredweight (CWT) based on your freight class. Higher classes (lower density goods) cost more per CWT. Distance, weight breaks, and accessorials further influence the final LTL rate.
These estimates are based on national averages and current market conditions. Actual rates will vary based on exact pickup/delivery locations, load details, carrier availability, accessorial charges, and seasonal demand.
